Steinwehr Avenue Gettysburg

steinwehr ave bike week at night

Last year Diana and I went to Gettysburg Bike Week by ourselves to cover the event for Fast Lane Biker Delmarva. We enjoyed the event on Saturday and rode through the self guided tours of the historical battlefields on Sunday. This year we went with some members of our HOG Chapter and spent less time at the event grounds. We spent Friday and Saturday evening strolling along Steinwehr Ave. There is so much to do along Stenwehr that Gettysburg has a whole travel brochure and website dedicated to just Steinwehr Ave. Check out www.EnjoyGettysburg.com

We enjoyed dinner at a friendly diner on Steinwehr called The Avenue Restaurant on both Friday and Saturday evenings. The food was good, prices fair with great service and a smile. They made us feel welcome and I ate so much I thought I was going to explode!

Steinwehr is a convenient straight shot in from our motel; the Eisenhower on Business Route 15 Emmitsburg Road. Emmitsburg Rd goes through some of the battlefield before arriving in town where it becomes Steinwehr Ave. Here are some pics Diana took while riding on the back of my bike into town to meet up with our friends for dinner.

I enjoyed the Eisenhower. The rooms were large, the plumbing was awesome and the indoor pool had a retractable roof like the Astrodome! The powerful hot shower was the best of any I have ever enjoyed. I didn’t want to come out of the shower. Their toilets had Sloan flushing devices in them that could suck a golf ball through a garden hose! I kept playing with the flusher which sounded like a jet rocket taking off! WHOOOSH!!! I didn’t want to leave the bathroom. My wife is going to kill me for telling the world about my obsession with the plumbing. Click here to check out the Sloan FlushMate.

Gettysburg Civil War Bike

Civil War Bike 2

We were walking down Steinwehr Ave and I noticed this motorcycle parked in a space behind a pizza restaurant. It was an amazing custom depicting fantastic airbrush work of Gettysburg related events. The detail is awesome like the leather horse saddle seat, the revolver in a holster, the bugle horn, and the civil war soldier skull headlight.

You think you’re a good mechanic?

So you think you’re a good mechanic? Can you fix your motorcycle if it is 30 feet up in the air on a tightwire? Check out the chicks from Circus Una! We got a look see at this motorcycle thrill show while at the 10th Anniversary Gettysburg Bike Week.

“Bike doesn’t start so I’ll check the gas tank and see if it has any go go juice.”

We Saw Funny Things in Gettysburg

Bours heads

We went to the 10th Anniversay Gettysburg Bike Week… and we did see some funny things! The above items were in a leather shop on Steinweher Ave. I would venture to guess it was Wilderness Lodge Leather & Hat. The below picture was taken in the event parking lot at Granite Hill Campground.

Pirate and Wenchy

We saw a pretty wild biker cowboy enter a mini bike in the burnout competition. He spanked his little black machine and wet down the tires with bottled water to make it perform better. He didn’t win!?

We saw funny underpants again. Last year I did not show the funny underpants because I thought they were a little on the adult humor side but I will share these with you this year.

These crazy ladies decided to stir things up. Those innocent bikers were making sure to follow the signs plastered all over town that read “Throttle Down In Town”. So these two pulled up a chair from a sidealk cafe and positioned themselves curbside to signal the bikers coming by to rev their throttles up! They were a hoot!

crazy ladies

Funny or ingenious? I’m thinking this is more genious than funny but I’ll hit you with it anyway. This is how you travel to a burnout contest if you’re serious!
