A Pair of Knuckleheads - Fine Motorcycle Art

A pair of Knuckleheads

Billy is a UK based artist who does detailed drawings related to dancing and motorcycles… strange combination. Of interest to us is the limited edition print of a pair of Harley-Davidson Knuckleheads. It takes Billy an hour to draw one inch of detail. The print is of a 1946 and a 1947 Harley Knucklehead and is titled ‘A Pair of Knuckleheads’. Each of the 250 limited edition 16″ x 12″ prints are $35 including free shipping from England. Billy will give away the original pencil art worth $1600 to one of the print buyers when the edition sells out. I think I’m going to buy one just to get a chance at winning the orginal. 1 out of 250 is a pretty good chance of winning this valuable artwork.

Portraits of American Bikers: Life in the 1960’s

black and white pictures of american bikers

The Flash Collection

Not your typical “girl next door”, Beverly Roberts, the daughter of Outlaw biker Jim “Flash 1%er” Miteff, was riding on motorcycles before she could walk. Now, more than 40 years later she has published a handpicked selection of her father’s photographs. Portraits of American Bikers: Life in the 1960s is the first in the series of three books that make up the collection. Portraits of American Bikers: Inside Looking Out (the second book in the series) will be released in April of 2010. All three books in the Outlaws MC series are published by Flash Productions, LLC. A retired stockbroker, Beverly owns the publishing company named after her late father.

Beverly asked me to review the books and I did. I was blown away by the true life detailed black and white photo’s of these gritty 1960’s 1%ers. This is a collection of real life pictures full of detail showing the bikes, the clothes and the living conditions of the 1960’s Outlaw. This is not Hollywood, this is the real deal.

I didn’t think that my writing was up to the job of describing these books well enough so I brought them to one of our local HOG meetings to get some inspiration. I passed them around to some of the guys that I thought would appreciate the time capsule. They loved the book and it brought back a lot of memories for those guys of old BSA’s and Triumphs. Someone liked the books so much they took them home with them… oh well. Easy come easy go. That’s an endorsement! These books are good enough to steal! Just kidding. I’m sure my friends will return my books to me.

Tidewater Grille in Havre de Grace

tidewater grille in havre de grace, md

We had dinner tonight at the Tidewater Grille in Havre de Grace, Maryland and sat outside right on the banks of the Susquehanna River. It was really a cool place and I think it would make a great biker destination. Plenty of parking for large groups. I hear the owners ride. Put it on your list of places to visit in Maryland.

Crash… and Walk Away With a Bruised Ego

Dress for the crash. That means you should always wear a DOT helmet, protective jacket, good pants, gloves and sturdy boots.

A friend who wishes to remain anonymous recently went down. One moment he looked away and next thing you know the car in front of him stopped short. My friend laid the bike down and slid across the pavement… bike slid too and came to rest under the car. Thanks to my friend’s helmet and leather jacket the worst bruise was to the ego. He got up and spent the rest of the weekend riding his scuffed motorcycle. As far as crashes go, this is a happy ending!

Keep a safe following distance, practice your emergency swerving and braking, wear your protective gear.

Although Joker, Diana & myself for one reason or another did not submit our monthly columns, I did slip in a PR piece about First State HOG taking part in the Patriot Tour on page 54.
