AHDRA At Cecil County Dragway - June 28 & 29, 2008

AHDRA Brochure

Diana and I went to the races yesterday at Cecil County Dragway. The All Harley Drag Racing Association was in town. It’s not everyday the AHDRA is in your backyard, or even within a days ride. We rode some great roads, got a little lost, bumped into a few friends, walked through the pits and watched the races.

It was an interesting little day trip. I took some nice backroads in Fair Hill, MD and passed my turn and then lost my bearings. We ended up on Route 40 heading back towards Elkton. Diana set me straight and we got to the races thirty minutes later than expected.

I was surprised to see the Baltimore HAMC at the races, I’m not used to seeing the Hells Angels. The Maryland State Police had a huge presence as well. They had a number of patrol cars, unmarked cars, unmarked SUV’s, Harleys and their mobile Incident Command unit. The mobile Incident Command Center parked on a hill up in front of the whole area and had two video cameras atop two poles that extended about 40 feet over the RV to keep an eye on things.

We bumped into Anthony Digeorgio who is Chairman of the Board for Chesapeake HOG. He was working the RAACE booth promoting their upcoming Rally on August 17th. The 3rd annual Rally for RAACE to raise money and public awareness to prevent child sexual abuse.

We also bumped into Jeff Shelton of Independents Chopper. Jeff is the real deal, a modest and talented artist who makes old school style choppers right here in Newark, Delaware. No fancy pretentious Hollywood TV show bullshit, just a regular guy making a living by doing what he loves to do. I brought my first Harley to Jeff’s shop for several repairs and he and his mechanic Bill always treated me like a friend from day one. We bumped into Bill aka Roach at the races also. Bill doesn’t work for Jeff anymore but they are both cool in my book.

Diana took a lot of pictures and video. Then she figured out how to make a video clip using Quicktime and uploaded it to YouTube so we can show you some of the races.  The races were pretty cool. Some of those bikes get over 200mph!

Chesapeake Harley Davidson and Chesapeake HOG

HOG Logo

Last night I had the opportunity to visit the new Chesapeake Harley Davidson dealership in Darlington, MD and attend the Chesapeake HOG general meeting for June. It was an excellent night, Diana and I had a great time visiting with our brothers and sisters south of our border.

For those of you outside our area… I believe that Ramsey’s Chespeake Harley Davidson which was a rather small dealership had a new huge building which looks like a giant barn constructed which is now Chesapeake Harley Davidson. I also believe that the Cecil/Harford County HOG chapter changed their name to the Chesapeake HOG chapter. Congratulations to Chesapeake HD and Chesapeake HOG on these new and exciting changes.

The huge red barn is really cool. I like the natural wood inside the dealership that creates a cozey country feel. If you have the opportunity to visit this dealership, you should.

My Mission: I always wanted to see how other HOG chapters conduct their meetings but the purpose of my visit was to spread the word about an event in Wilmington, DE. I wanted let our brothers and sisters from Chesapeake know about an event that in my mind is a no brainer. The Wilmington Blue Rocks are having a Motorcycle theme night on July 26th. Tickets are only $8.00 and includes a fireworks show after the baseball game. This event will benefit the Motorcycle Accident Victims Foundation which is a charity for injured motorcyclists from our tri state area (Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania).

The Chesapeake HOG chapter welcomed us and let me address their club about the Blue Rocks event. They are a proud chapter, had a lot of activities to participate in and all their officers were interesting to listen to. They seem to have a great relationship with their dealership and I hope to join them on some of their upcoming rides.

Jay & Diana Green start new riding group called The First State Ducks

Biker Rubber Ducky

Diana and I are back from our adventure into the Pennsylvania mountains with our HOG chapter! When asked on Thursday night if the trip was going to be canceled due to inclimate weather, I said “Screw It, Let’s Ride!”. I lead 40 dedicated Harley Davidson Enthusiasts on a trip that will be remembered for a life time. It was a wet wet wet weekend. We felt more like ducks then HOGs. We have a lot to write about and a lot of pictures. We tested a lot of products, experienced adverse weather conditions, visited great dealerships and have new philosophies and insights to ponder.

Make sure to check back regularly as we post new stories, reviews and adventures as a result of our trip. For now I leave you with this…

This Picture Says It All - Check Out Smil’n Bob Grinning Ear to Ear

Old School Bob

I think this picture says it all. Check out my good friend Bob cruising through the backroads of southern Delaware on his tricked out Sportster 1200. He has done alot to this bike, notice the wide forks! Bob is one of two people I ride with that doesn’t wear a helmet; he looks like he is having such a good time I might have to ditch mine.

Steve Williams Scooter Sighting

It’s a relaxing Monday night in the Green household. Diana is reading blogs and I am catching up on my motorcycle magazines. I’m speed reading through the June 2008 issue of Rider. Skipping bike reviews for bikes I would never buy, skipping articles on rides in places I will never visit, skipping reviews for products I would never buy. I’m reading an article about a motorcycle club called the Rounders. These are people who ride all year round and pride themselves on welcoming in all brands of two wheeled transportation. Then it hits me! Low and behold on page 116 there is a picture of a 2006 Vespa GT250ie scooter on a snowy road outside Pine Grove Mills, Pennsylvania…. the picture is by our own Steve Williams of Scooter In The Sticks! Steve’s scooter blog may have gone into hibernation but his spirit is still alive in the motorcycle community!

2008 Bike Season Is Here - check out the weather report at www.noaa.gov

Cruising Skyline Drive

I took my bike off the motorcycle jack today so I could ride to the March HOG meeting. It feels awesome to be on two wheels again! Nothing else like it. I wanted to skip the meeting and keep riding, but I didn’t. Went to the meeting and had a great time with my fellow First State HOG members.

I can’t wait to ride again. I’m thinking maybe I’ll ride to work tomorrow.  So I go to check the weather and it doesn’t look good.

According to Road Runner magazine the best tool for checking the weather in the United States is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s website: www.noaa.gov

Harley Davidson Motorcycle Boots

Harley Davidson Motorcycle Boots

I got a good tip tonight that I want to pass on to you folks. A good friend of mine who wishes to remain anonymous told me on the QT that your local Sears department store carries Harley Davidson boots. Don’t let anyone know where you heard that because we HOG members are expected to be loyal to the dealerships. Do me a favor and do something good with the money you save on these boots. Send it to a charity like MAV.

MAV is a grass roots charity for Motorcycle Accident Victims. We need to look out for each other by donating to our own charity and sharing good tips like this!

Here is the link to Sears to do a little online window shopping: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/search_10153_12605?keyword=harley+davidson+boots

I value your oppinion. If you have any money saving tips like this, please post a comment. Let us know. Share the knowledge!
