The 3rd Annual Rally for RAACE August 17, 2008

All the people

Did you know that 2 out of 10 children are sexually abused before the age of 18? I bet you didn’t think the number was that high. What if it was 1 out of 50 or 1 out of 100? That would still be too much! The RAACE Foundation is focused on public awareness of this epidemic because it will not stop until we talk about it openly. If we don’t talk about it, children won’t come forward and predators will continue to commit these foul criminal acts. The child predators are counting on us not talking about this and keeping it hush hush.

Ken Smith founded RAACE in 2004 to bring this problem to the forefront of society. He needed a vehicle that would attract both children and adults. Since the Smith family was heavily involved in sprint car racing the connection to motorsports was made and TEAM RAACE was formed.

One of the events that RAACE conducts annually is the Rally for RAACE which is a 46 mile police escorted motorcycle ride with live bands, vendors, family entertainment and of course food. I was joined by Gary and Gladys from my HOG chapter. They brought along their friend Chris who rides a customized Honda VTX. The four of us left Newark, DE on Sunday morning and rode straight down Route 273 to Route 1 to Jones Junction in Bel Air, MD. Jones Junction is a multi brand auto park and it took us an hour to get there. Traffic cops were waving bikes into the parking lot. Bikers from the Rugged Cross MC and US Military Vets MC were directing traffic inside the parking lot. A heavy metal band called Sir Psycho was playing. There were about 300 hundred bikes there and about a hundred more came in after us. The ride was very nice except for it being an open event. One can easily get sandwiched between a newbie and a jerk in an event like this, but what can you do? It’s a 1st rate super event for a good cause! This was the best most organized event I have attended so far.

Well enough with the jibber jabber, I know you want pictures. Here are the pictures from Jones Junction…
