One of the members of my HOG chapter recently sent me this video. I have seen it posted by Steve Johnson at Biker Pilosophy. It is a super great song and music video because the words of the song hit on so many motorcycle truisms that we can’t seem to vocalize when someone asks us what is so great about riding a motorcycle or a Harley Davidson. I like how it says flat out we all ride for different reasons.

My favorite part is how the dude parks his Lexus on the street and his Harley in the garage! Second favorite part is “lay her down slow”…reminds me of Dave’s Cruisers Make Better Lovers post.

Really nice video. It gave me a nice start to my Monday morning! Di…I liked the “lay her down soft…” line myself. Thanks for sharing!
Yes it is amazing how different we all are. You would think that since we all love riding Harley Davidson motorcycles than we would be one big homogeneous black leather clad group with the same likes and dislikes. But that is not the case. Each HOG chapter is different. Within my HOG chapter we have members with very different likes and dislikes. Some like to go fast, some slow. Some like long distance riding some short. Some are white collar and some are blue. We are all different and enjoy this sport in different ways and get different things out of it.

Jay… did you know that your blog is on Central Time???? I posted my comment at 641pm Eastern Time… Nothing to do with the video, which is AWESOME by the way, but it just struck me as odd… oh well… nevermind….
Princess Di// Jun 25, 2008 at 3:20 pm
Laurie, I beat you to it…ordered Jay a t-shirt yesterday. Unofrtunately they only have women’s tees in medium and small…and you know as well as I do that my “girls” just won’t fit in that!
And the time was set to Eastern Standard Time, apparently it didn’t automatically adjust for Daylight Savings Time! (all fixed now though)
I would like to talk to “Joey” about booking him at Pawhuska Motorsickle Rally. Anyone know how to reach him? If so, please contact me at darrell@oklahomabiker.net
Thanks!

J.I. - Here are the lyrics to the best of my abilities, enjoy:
Its a freedom loving lifestyle I adore
She’s waiting for me behind my garage door
She’s all dressed up and she’s ready to roll
Never talks back always begging for more.
~
If you don’t ride then you don’t know
Where I’ve been and where I’m going
Its all about the freedom of the open road
Open the throttle and roll
~
Everybody rides during riding season
They ride different there bikes for different reasons
Once you get on it it is hard to get off
If you go down I hope you lay her down soft
~
If you don’t ride then you don’t know
Where I’ve been and where I’m going
Its all about the freedom of the open road
We see more through our sunglass lens
Than you’ll ever see in your Mercedes Benz
It’s time to feel the freedom of the open road
open the throttle and roll
~
You don’t ride you don’t know
Its in our blood, its in our soul
Its all about the healing you get from the open road
~
Along the way strangers become friends
This brotherhood of ours never ends
we play lifes hand like a poker run
Sacrifice your time for the fallen ones
~
If you don’t ride you don’t know
Where I’ve been and where I’m going
Its all about the freedom of the open road
It doesn’t matter if your young or old
Running with the pack or rolling on your own
Its all about the freedom of the open road
Grab your handles and roll

Where can I purchase one of his CDs with the song “Freedom of the Open Road”? I’ve been looking for it but can’t seem to find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Mark

The director of the video used to run an eBay store where you could purchase the t-shirt and CD (or mp3…I forget which). But the store appears to be closed. From my perspective, this guy is missing a golden marketing opportunity here! But oh well, its his loss I guess. If I ever find anything again, I will post an update here for all of the Joey J & the Shovelheads loyal fans.
I cannot believe no one seems to know more about Joey J & the Shovelheads. I would love to book this band at the XXXth Anniversary of Biker Days in the Great Osage, Pawhuska, Oklahoma.

You wrote: “ordered Jay a t-shirt yesterday.”
I have been searching the web for 2 days now and can’t find a site.
Would you please share where you ordered it from with us?
I’d love to get a few. One for myself and a few others for presents.
Thanks,
Dennis
