Shenandoah National Park – Skyline Drive – Mid Atlantic Motorcycle Heaven

Skyline Drive runs 105 miles from Front Royal, VA to Rockfish Gap, VA through Shenandoah National Park. If you live in the Mid Atlantic region, you must visit this American Byway.

We went last October with our HOG chapter but were just a wee bit too early to catch fall foliage color. Even so, we were in awe of the spectacular mountain vistas. Skyline Drive is a comfortable two lane road that meanders along the spine of the of the Blue Ridge. The speed limit is 35 mph and there are 75 scenic overlooks. The views are awesome. I think we took over 200 pictures. There are three entrance/exit points. One at each end of the park and one in the middle. The park features visitor centers, camping, a gas station, a lodge and a souvenir shop. The parks highest peak is 4,050′ Hawksbill Mountain. The parkways highest point is 3,680′ at Skyland. You can stay overnight at the Skyland Resort. The park is known for it’s beautiful wildflowers that grow along the roadside and its abundance of furry creatures that like to stroll across the road.
