Jet II Motorcycle Helmet Review

Jet II Motorcycle Helmet Harley Davidson HJC

When I first started riding Harleys I purchased a DOT approved half helmet. Although the DOT helmet didn’t look as cool as the novelty skull buckets, it afforded the protection I wanted and some of the Harley biker style I was looking for.

I soon became annoyed with the eyewear situation. My prescription glasses didn’t protect me from the wind and my eyes would tear up. Goggles were a pain, especially carrying two pair. I carried a dark pair for daytime and a clear pair for nighttime. For awhile I switched from goggles to some very cool riding sunglasses from Flying Pig Eyewear. They worked great, until they broke. One day they just fell apart. I still had to carry both dark and clear glasses for day and night riding.

I finally opted to purchase a ¾ helmet with a shield. I bought a black DOT approved Harley Davidson Jet II. I can wear any pair of eyeglasses with this helmet. The shield protects my face from the sting of road debris, rain drops and kamikaze bugs. The helmet feels and looks like a well made product with plenty of cushion to protect my skull. I believe these helmets are made by HJC. I highly recommend the helmet even though it makes my head look a little bulbous. I look like the Martian in Bugs Bunny cartoons who had a little body and a huge helmet. The helmet also comes in silver. I wish I bought the silver one because the black gets very hot under the sun.

Diana’s Jet II Helmet

I like the helmet so much I bought a silver one for my wife Diana. She is much happier now that she can wear any sun glasses she feels like wearing instead of wearing a pair of riding glasses all day. She also appreciates not getting whacked in the face by large bugs when we are zipping through country back roads.

You can visit your local Harley Davidson Dealer to buy this helmet or you can go to eBay or eBay Motors and search under Jet II Harley Davidson Helmet for both new and used helmets.

  1. I always think I look like Gazoo (from the Flintstones)! …but it sure beats getting whacked in the cheekbone by a bug the size of a golf ball!
    Gazzo from the Flintstones

  2. Attention…. there has been another Gazoo sighting!!!
Is this Princess Diana or alien cartoon being Gazoo?

  3. I had some problems with adding pictures to this post. Here is a picture of a helmet by HJC available at Ride Gear.

And here is a picture of me in my bulbous head/helmet

  4. I was threatening to put antennae on my helmet as a joke because I have Great Gazoo phobia also. Funny. I actually like that helmet. It doesn’t look bad. I might have to check it out. The worst helmet I have ever purchased was the Nolan Outlaw…it made me look like I had half an eight ball on my head and the comfort sucked. Mrs RC looks like one of the Charlie’s Angels in her helmet. You married Drew Barrymore RC?

  5. You’ve got it all sewn up Jay – a man with a bulbous helmet is always a big hit with the ladies.

You’ll have to forgive me for saying Diana looks better in hers, but after the stompers incident I now have a phobia about complementing men.

Seriously though, I still prefer my half-shell. Riding sunglasses work just fine for me. When I have the extra bucks, I’d love to get one of those helmets though. It’d be perfect to throw in my saddlebag with my rain gear when the weather is questionable. My brain bucket’s useless in the rain. It’d be nice to pull under a bridge and switch to the Jet II for a safer, more comfortable ride in the rain.

  6. Joker, all men in the northeast have a phobia of not only complimenting other men but even talking to other men for fear of being mistaken for gay. Back home I never spoke to strangers for this reason and if anyone talked to me I thought something was up. They were either gay and trying to hit on me or they were going to rob me. Down here in the not so deep south everyone talks to each other. I love it. I won’t go back.
    🙂
Dave you have gone and done it now. Thanks for complimenting my wonderful wife who is usually very humble and telling her she looks like a movie star. One of Charlies Angels no less! Now she is walking around with a swelled head that makes Gazoo look normal.
    🙂
I like the helmet, it works great.

  7. Look here RC, the only thing swelled about my head are my sinuses…thanks to this nasty cold I have. Now stop making up stories about me or I will start picking on your spelling!! X-(

  8. heh…love

  9. […] a little red rubber band. Not a big deal… except this happened again! A year later I bought a black Harley Davidson Jet II three quarter helmet. I liked it so much I bought Diana a silver one. Again the helmet gods played their evil little […]

  10. I purchased the JET II 3/4 helmet at my local HD store back in 2008 when I bought my first Harley. It was a wide glide. Now I own a ’13 road king and am planning a 10 trip to Colorado. I still have the helmet but would like to replace the face shield with a new one.. Where can I possibly purchase the face shield only?????

  11. Sorry I don’t know for sure. I still keep going back to this helmet after having received newer ones but just based on age alone it is time to replace these 2008 helmets. I hear they do not retain their protective property over the years. I’m attached to mine and finding the dead on same helmet is challenging because like most Harley stuff it was discontinued and replaced by newer fashions. Good luck Ray!

  12. Gracias amigo, kind of what I was expecting to hear but was hoping for more.
